“The Swedish ship Gotheborg”

The Swedish Ship Gotheborg has been built according to tradition methods and with the same raw material that were used in the 18th century. Almost 1,000 oak and 50 kilometers of pine have been turned into a 58.5-meter long and 11-metre long wide East Indiaman ship. The nail, blocks, sails, cordage and ropes have all been made by hand. It took 100,000 man-hours just to build the rig. No drawing from the past were found, so the main keys to success had to be innovation, skill and persistent research. Modern equipment for safety, navigation, cooking, heating, and hygiene have been carefully disguised onboard to preserve the tradition feel.

The Swedish ship left Sweden to set sail for china. After stop in Vigo, Cadiz, Recife cape town, port Elizabeth, Fremantle, Jakarta, Guangzhou, shanghai and hong kong, the ship now come to Singapore on it’s way back to Sweden. The ship should be back in Gothenburg in June 2007depending on weather and winds. The whole journey is approximately 37,000 nautical miles long.

This is the opportunity to visit the ship to study and feel the historical atmosphere at the promenade vivo city level 1.
